GMC&H inferno : Was it accident or cover up ? | | | Nitesh Sangral
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 9 : The Friday night fire incident at premier health institute, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu has raised questions with people asking whether the inferno was an accident or a cover up. Although, the hospital management is denying any foul play but questions as to why the management failed to handle fire initially have been raised. Hospital sources informed Early Times that the fire broke out in the corridor adjacent to the Ward No 1 of the hospital late Friday evening and gutted worn out material of the hospital but it apparently had exposed the non-functioning of fire-fighting facilities installed at premier hospital of Jammu province. "It could be an attempt to dodge the internal audit of junk items which is pre requisite process before auctioning the old junk including beds, mattress and other furniture and others, sources alleged while adding, " the incident is enough to prove that alleged unholy nexus between private parties and few officials of the hospital which perhaps have pilferaged some items for their vested interests." "Why the hospital staff failed to douse the flames, if they are incompetent or the fire fighting system is just of no use, they asked and said, "why despite all sources hospital staff failed God forbid if the Fire and Emergency Services department fails to reach in time there would have been a major tragedy i.e. fire reaching to in patient wards..... just imagine then what could have happen?" Sources maintained if there was something fishy which some vested elements within official/hospital machinery don't wish to come out, if that was why fire was not controlled initially or really the magnitude of fire was so high the hospital staff's attempts turned still are unanswered questions which certainly would make some officials to come under scanner. Raising question over tall claims of hospital management about state of arts fire fighting system, the sources, said amid tall claims that fire fighting system in the hospital is functional the incident is an indicator to lackadaisical and casual approach of management. "This fire incident was not first to happen, numbers of times the small and major fire incidents have been reported at GMC & Hospital Jammu but after the incident everything returns to usual nothing is learnt from previous accidents, "sources alleged. Medical Superintendent GMC Hospital Jammu, Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal could not be contacted. |
