Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 9: With a day or two left for the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti to succeed her father as the Chief Minister of the State, the fate of several senior Ministers continue to hang in balance with suspense over who will get what continues to dominate the scenes.
Highly placed sources said that besides the finance and CAPD, there will be major changes witnessed in Tourism and Home portfolios. There are some Ministers of the PDP who are getting sleepless nights, frightful of losing what they used to enjoy in the past.
Though, there are deliberations about the senior party leader Muzaffar Hussain Beigh being accorded the key post with the veteran expressing desire to head the Finance Ministry, questions are being raised about whether Dr Haseeb Drabu would be dropped at the time when he is ready with the budget for the next financial year. A senior PDP leader, privy to the policy making at the current time says there aren't much chances of any change in the Finance Ministry that too when the incumbent Minister is ready with the budget scheduled to be presented on 18th of this month.
Sources divulged further that in future, there are chances of Beigh being accorded the portfolio of his choice as his role would be of the key importance. "The role of Muzaffar Beigh will be more important than what was being witnessed in the past. Now it will be Beigh besides Mehbooba who would be dominating the scenes," sources said.
It was further revealed that Mufti's close aide and the incumbent Education Minister Naeem Akhtar would be given the tourism portfolio. Sources said that though he would not be relieved from his duties as the Education Minister but there will be the additional change of tourism being handed over to him. Further, he will also have a key post within the party during the coming time. "Education Ministry will not be taken away from Akhtar. He will continue to head the department but Tourism Ministry will be the one more portfolio which Akhtar has to take care of," sources said, adding that the decision in this regard has already been made.
As far as the role of member Parliament from Srinagar- Tariq Hameed Karra is concerned, there has been no discussion over it so far within the senior leadership of the party. "There are some actions taken by Karra which went much against the interests of the party including the one in which he opposed Modi's visit to Srinagar on November 7, last year. There will be no responsibility accorded to Karra," sources said.
Reports informed further there are high chances of some PDP leaders who are holding MoS positions in the Government to be given rest. Some new faces would be inducted as Ministers of the State. "There will be last minute changes done in the program but it is for sure that major faces of the present coalition will be replaced as the greater challenge ahead of Mehbooba would be to make best out of whatever resources are available within," a party leader said.
