Beigh’s confidence at Fairview leaves rivals jealous | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 9: The "confident" presence of veteran politician and Peoples Democratic Party stalwart Muzaffar Hussain Beigh at the mourning of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at latter's Fairview residence here has left his rivals in the PDP jealous even as such lot finds their future bleak. Insiders said on Friday when a Minister from the Mufti led Government, who had skipped the funeral for a "meeting on economics in New Delhi", reached the Fairview residence, he was shocked to see Member Parliament, Beigh sitting among the mourners and talking to the media confidently. "His face turned red as if he couldn't tolerate Beigh’s presence. Finally after a few minutes he left the spot, and every one could realize that the man was jealous of Beigh," said an eyewitness. In the last around a year, since the PDP came to power in alliance with BJP, some "immature politicians who are new to field," out of their jealously towards party veterans like Beigh and his colleague in the Parliament Tariq Hameed Karra, conspired to create wedge between the two and party leadership. It is believed that a "coterie" of such selfish politicians used some middle-rung Government officials to fuel distrust, while such officials were subsequently blessed with "plum postings and illegal promotions". "But as of now, with Beigh having regained the confidence of the party leadership, this coterie finds their future bleak," said a source. Beigh and Karra, the founding members of PDP, have always been seen as main support to the Mufti family. Though their relations had run into rough weather, the two groups reconciled following the ailment of Mufti when he was flown to New Dehli in December last year. Thereafter, when Mufti was hospitalized, Mehbooba is understood to have conveyed to her party leadership that she had no grievances with Beigh and Karra and that everybody should respect them. It was by virtue of this that Beigh took the opportunity of talking to media on behalf of PDP on Mufti's death. Beigh has been frequently giving media briefings from the Fairview residence of the Muftis. Though some from the opponent lobby had tried to give an impression that Kashmir would run into "political crises" if Mehbooba doesn't hurriedly take oath as the CM, Beigh cleared this air too only to show his wisdom and hold over constitutional issues. While talking to reporters, Beigh, a legal luminary and a constitutional expert said the State would not face any "constitutional crisis" but only witness a "constitutional arrangement" without a Chief Minister in office. "The State will come under the care-taker Governor's rule, which isn't a regular Governor's rule," he said. Beigh said unlike in the regular Governor's rule, under the care-taker Governor's rule, the Governor cannot appoint advisors or issue orders or make any ordinances. While talking to reporters Beigh said the rightwing Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) cannot change the "rules of the game" at this moment and ask for a rotational Chief Minister or more Cabinet portfolios. The PDP leader was referring to the reports that BJP was asking for a rotational Chief Minister and demanding more Cabinet portfolios before going ahead with the new Government formation, likely to be headed by PDP President Mehbooba Mufti. Beigh stressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath and BJP President Amit Shah had given "good signals" for the smooth transition of power. |
