On day of CM's demise, Academy hosted cultural extravaganza | 'Aziz Hajini should be suspended immediately' | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 9: While entire state was plunged into mourning due to death of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7, the Academy of Art, Culture and Languages was busy in hosting cultural extravaganza. A closed door function was held in the Abhinav Theatre on the day when all the government offices and institutions shut down to mourn the demise of Mufti. "I had given a clear cut instructions to all my staff to close down all activities and let no function, whatsoever of any nature, to be held in Academy. All our official functions were cancelled," claimed Aziz Hajini, Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. Hajini, who got the prized posting because of his proximity to some 'power centres' in Srinagar and Delhi, also claimed that he had flown to Kashmir to attend the ceremony and had left the instructions behind. While the Academy employees back here put up a reason that though it was a private function related to some children theater activities, they maintained that the hall was used for only rehearsal purposes and no public function was held. "It was a rehearsal only of the children bound for participating in some national event, no cultural extravaganza or that sort was held, "said manager Abhinav Theatre. Though this office received this communiqué from the academy employees about 'only rehearsal' held in the hall gives a corroboration to the fact that Academy employees on that day had done duties which officially and as per rules get cancelled on Chief Minister's demise. The Chief Minister who was the President of the Academy . It does not matter for any private group or an institution to cancel its programme since many functions that could not have been cancelled on the day were held as per schedule. The question arises on the trustworthiness of the Academy employees who remained on the duty that day and provided their services without bringing such issue in the knowledge of the secretary, this office observes. "I have no such knowledge. If any such thing has happened, it calls for severe action against the defaulters. I would look into the matter and initiate proper action against the erring employees," said the secretary Aziz Hajini. This office acknowledges that since there can be no prevention to any private institution in pursuing its function, but providing a government hall with their employees supporting the show (rehearsals even) , on the occasion when the head of the state demises is a question mark on the delinquency of an institution whose President itself was the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. "How without the logistic and holistic support of the government employees in the Culture Academy any function (rehearsal even) can be held in the Abhinav Theatre which requires opening of the main gate, followed by opening of the Abhinav hall, opening of the light and sound house and then providing the entire system in place, all to be done by the Academy employees only. Secretary Aziz Hajini needs to answer to this question," a PDp sympathiser told Early Times. |
