Poonch, Feb 9: The members of a family have gone on a hunger strike at Shaheed Yaadgar Chowk in Mendhar town against the encroachment of their land by an 'influential' man.
Police sources said Fazal Hussain, son of Mithu of Behra, purchased 12.9 kanals of land from Mohammad Din, son of Qadra of Behra, and his son Mohammad Shafi at Mendhar under Khasra no 688 in 1989. After selling the land, the father-son duo and their families went to Chingus, Rajouri, and settled there.
Mohammad Din's other son Abdul Aziz, who lives at Behra, allegedly encroached upon the Fazal's land and threatened him of dire consequences if he disallowed him to raise structures on it. Though he brought the matter to the notice of authorities concerned but they were yet to take action in this regard. Sources said the matter had been brought by the family to the notice of DC, Poonch, who was said to have directed SDM, Mendhar, Sher Singh to initiate inquiry into the matter and submit him the report within the shortest possible time. Meanwhile, the aggrieved family has sit on hunger strike at Shaheed Yadgar Chowk. |
