| Jammu witnessed a golden era, says BJP | | Spurious claim | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 9: The other day, the State BJP through one of its MLCs sought to give the people of Jammu province to understand that they witnessed a "golden period" when the BJP was in power in the State. The claim has been ridiculed and dismissed by the concerned people of the region.
"The BJP insulted the people of Jammu region by making this ridiculous claim," said a senior advocate of Jammu and Kashmir High Court. He further added that the "BJP only rubbed salt on the wounds of the people of the region by its spurious and outrageous claim". This opinion was shared by many of his colleagues. They with one voice said that the "BJP is losing its credibility with each passing moment by indulging in cheap politics" and that "it would be completely wiped out in case it didn't reform itself and reviewed its policy towards Jammu region and its suffering people". One of the senior Advocates said: "Don't waste time to discuss the BJP. It doesn't deserve any recognition".
The view of many University students was no different. They echoed the same view. In fact, they went several steps further and denounced the BJP for making such a ludicrous claim. "The only contribution of the BJP to the Jammu region was that it ditched and punished its people by depriving them of their legitimate due share in the governance of the State," said a Law student and many others endorsed the view.
A Political Science student said: "The BJP is India's most undependable organization and it has betrayed not only the people of Jammu region but also the nation by adopting and implanting policies, which were devised and implemented ruthlessly by the Congress-led UPA Government and other Central Government. The people of Jammu committed an unpardonable sin by giving mandate to the BJP at the national level and in Jammu region," he said. His classmate went a step further and said: "The BJP is not a party of Jammu; it's a mouthpiece of Kashmir. We didn't vote for the BJP to get such a shabby treatment".
Very significantly, a petty shopkeeper also expressed similar views. He used a very strong language against the BJP and asserted that the "BJP hurt the cause of Jammu the most to keep its new masters in the Valley in good honour". "See what the Kashmiri leaders have been saying about Kashmir and the Kashmiri cause and see what these BJP wallas have been doing. They have fallen from grace; we have no respect for the BJP. We are only waiting for an opportunity to avenge our humiliations," he said. He further said "it was not a golden period; it was the period when Jammu faced worst kind of humiliations".
What this shopkeeper said about the BJP's claim was more significant that what the senior Advocates and the University students said. It not only indicated that even common masses have understood the BJP and its policies but it also suggested that an anti-BJP wave is sweeping the land. What was highly significant was his observation on the share of Jammu in the PDP-BJP coalition Government. It is very heartening.
There is still time for the BJP to retrospect and refashion its whole approach towards its constituency failing which it would become completely untouchable. |
