Civil Society groups question appointments made in banned period | Writing to Raj Bhawan, seeking thorough probe into embezzlements | | Early Times Report srinagar, Feb 9: What could send scores of Government employees into tizzy is the measure being taken by some civil society groups to question the authenticity of the appointments made in various departments during the banned period. Reports informed that not less than 50 thousands Government jobs were accorded in the State of Jammu and Kashmir in a period when the dispensation had applied a blanket ban on Government jobs. "How could the Government act as a mute spectator over such a gross violation of rules that too in a State wherein already highly educated youth are moving from pillar to post to earn livelihood," said Khalid Syed, a social activist. He added that the appointments made during the banned period that is after 1990s should be thoroughly probed and investigations into the same must be held without any delay. Crying foul over the appointments made during that period, civil society groups said jobs were accorded to the blue eyed sans any merit and while undermining the rules formulated by the Government later. Most serious issue, according to the civil society groups is that how the NC Government which assumed office after 1996 polls in the State allowed such gross violation of rules under its nose and why no action against the erring was initiated. Masood Ahmad, another civil society activist said the people appointed during the banned period in the State were later confirmed and promoted to the higher levels. "What we are witnessing at present is how more than six lakh youth are without jobs and how some Government offices defied rules and appointed people on prized positions. During the banned period, there were appointments made in R&B, PHE, Tourism, SKICC, health and various other departments and corporations," he said. It was informed further that various organisations working for the youth in the State are writing to Raj Bhawan while pitching for the thorough probe of such an issue. Meanwhile, when contacted an official in the Law Department told Early Times that there has been no order issued by the Government in which those appointed during the banned period in the State would get regularised or that period be declared null and void. He added that the various departments in their personal capacities had recruited people during the banned period and that the clearance over an issue is pending with the Government. |
