MGNREGA Scam: RTI indicates misappropriations of funds in Rural Dev Deptt 2/10/2016 12:08:58 AM Early Times Report Doda, Feb 9: A big financial scam in the Rural Development Department has come to light through a RTI reply which revealed huge amount meant for the purchase of building materials for the execution of various developmental works under MGNREGA schemes in panchayat Jodhpur-B of Ghat block in Doda district have been misappropriated by some blue eyed persons. These startling facts came to fore when one Romesh Kumar Rukwal of Jodhpur in Doda district through a RTI has sought clarification over the works projects in Panchyat Jodhpur of Ghat block of Doda district. According to RTI activist Romesh Kumar Rukwal filed his application dtd 05/11/2015 and sought details of funds released and works executed under MGNREGA in panchat Jodhpur-B during the financial year 2013-2014. The reply to the RTI plea not left the activists surprised but also other sane persons that the carriage and the cost of material for all the construction works taken during the above mentioned period in the said panchayat have been paid to three persons namely Dewan Chand s/o Sehj Ram R/o Bulla Jodhpur, Ferol Chand S/o Shankar Dass R/o Bhatta Jodhpur and Pawan Kumar S/o Om Parkash whose residential address is not known instead of the Job card holders. "The amount has been transferred to the bank accounts of the above named three persons by the MGNREGA authorities and other officials at the helms of affairs in the office of Block Development Officer (BDO) Ghat. Meanwhile official sources also alleged that the genuine labourers/card holders have been deprived of their dues. Surprisingly the elected members of the panchayat including the Sarpanch upon whom the confidence was reposed by the public watched the show as mere spectators for the reasons best known to them while the officers and officials of the concerned department in connivance with the agents have committed huge embezzelment thereby causing loss to the state exchequer. Following the RTI reply, the locals of panchayat Jodhpur-B have urged the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to intervene into the matter and initiate probe into the embezzlement of funds meant for the poor Job card holders.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
