Ravi Dass Was a Yuga Parivartka Saint | | | Rakesh Aathur
Ravi Dass was born in a chamar family within sub-caste Kutbhandla at Govardhanpur near Kashi in U. P. His lived from 1433-1588 of Saka- Era. Yet it is not an appropriate account of his birth. But it is said he was born in the family of Santhokh Dass (father) and Kalshan Devi (mother) on the bank of river Ganga. Ravi Dass was the only saint of his life, who was a lamplight for the" MOKSA" or Salvation of his age, who extracted the elites of that age likely kings and shepherds of the higher castes like "Mira Bhai". Many of them had been converted as his disciples in that age also. The way to attain salvation was only with his congregations then which is clear if we go through his entire life history. It is often said that Guru Nava Dass was also a great fan of Ravi Dass, who later earned a great name and fame among the "Bhakti Cult". He used to adore the dust of Ravi's holy feet as his religious sanctity. The teachings of Ravi Dass guide humans on the path of truthfulness and righteousness. He is acclaimed as "MASIHA" of all, especially the down-trodden. The comparison of such a saint with other saints of the age is a difficult task. He still continues to be a guiding force for many, especially those who did not enjoy equal status in society in those days. Ravi Dass is the only saint who can be defined as "Yuga Parivartka", who did the dual work like salvation and equality among the people. Article 14 & 15 of the Indian Constitution give all of us right to equality. He preached in his literature to raise educational standard of his followers so that they can understand the ethos of religion and duties towards society. Education was also important for the proper growth of an individual. According to him, it was the only one key for people to think better and strengthen brotherhood in the society. This ultimate success with the preaching of this iconic saint is giving an excellent feedback to the people of lower castes and downtrodden society in equal manners. Today people from lower castes were also make progress in all fields. The contribution of saints like Guru Ravi Dass, Guriu Nava Dass and Valmiki for the downtrodden people of the society is unforgettable. In order to prevent the untouchability from downtrodden people of the society, he preached in his congregations-for brotherhood, equality, non-violence, Moksha, education, etc. The stress for the enhancing educational standard, according to him, is the dire need of the hour in order to put off the bias of social strata.
