Information department remains understaffed in Baramulla district | | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report BARAMULLA, Feb 14: Despite the fact that twenty first century is considered as an era of information and technology the information department in Baramulla district is understaffed. Sources said that three information offices of Baramulla district lack manpower to meet with the new challenges of information and technology. The information offices including Pattan, Sopore and Uri are without adequate staff to run the offices. At the same time some employees have been attached with District Information Office Baramulla, sources said. "Pattan Tehsil is having only one employee as senior assistant where as it lacks of sufficient manpower including of Assistant Information Officer (AIO), Junior Assistant and Orderly. The orderly has been attached to District Information Office Baramulla," said sources. Sources said in Sopore Tehsil, posts were created like AIO, senior assistant, junior assistant and orderly. Here too junior assistant and orderly have been attached to DIO Baramulla for further duties. "In Uri Tehsil, five posts were created including of AIO, senior assistant, operator, junior assistant, and commentator and orderly. Senior assistant and orderly have been attached with DIO Baramulla," said sources. District information office Baramulla is itself understaffed including the post of Assistant Information Officer (AIO), two posts of junior assistants, five posts of cultural assistants and one post of accountant, said sources. "There used to be reading rooms where young generation would keep themselves abreast with the latest information and current affairs. But now the case is entirely different, these centers present shabby look and has remained limited to their own employees," said sources. When contacted District Information Officer Baramulla, Nisar Ahmad Wani said that the shortage of manpower is mostly because of new recruitment. He said that the case regarding the recruitment of above 40 posts of AIOs across the state is pending before the Supreme Court. When asked about the attachment of some employees he said that District Information Office is itself without adequate manpower. He said that being a district headquarter they lack manpower, and as such there was need to attach the officials, he said. Joint Director Information Kashmir, Shafqat Iqbal said that all the departments are understaffed and the basis recruitments are being carried out on fast track basis. He claimed that all the remaining posts will be filled in the next few months. |
