Jammu, Feb 14: Patients admitted in Chest Disease Hospital Jammu, are without diet since Friday, as the contractor has stopped supply due to non-payment. Sources informed Early Times that due shortage of funds, payment in favour of the contract providing diet in the hospital has not been paid. The administration of the 70 bedded only CD Hospital has no money to buy diet for patients. "We don't have money to buy food for the patients", said an attendant, whose father admitted in the Hospital for the past two weeks, he further said that most of patients admitted in the hospital cannot afford to buy diet from market. "Those, who don't have resources get treatment, prefer government hospital, but shortage of services in government hospital, is indirectly deny of health service to the patients", he added. A doctor said that diet to these patients is very necessary as they need it to recover at an earliest. We make efforts to save them from infections and a healthy diet plays a major role in fighting infection. "Diet for patients being out-sourced from private contractors, and the contractor has stopped the supply because of non-payments," said a doctor, adding that payment for several months, amounting several lacs have not been cleared so far. The in-patients are served with breakfast, lunch and dinner. And, the attendants have always complained about sub-standard food being served by the caterer. Dr Manoj Chalotra, Medical Superintendent, CD hospital acknowledged that diet among the patients has not been provided since Friday, as the contractor has stopped the supply. "It has been informed to Principal Government Medical College, and expected that supply of diet will be restored from Monday", he said. |
