Jammu has lawmakers but no leader | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 14: Jammu province has 37 MLAs but they do not represent Jammu. They do not have the guts to talk about Jammu and its people and the problems that they face. They represent the Kashmiri interests in Jammu and leave no stone unturned to harm their interests. For them, Kashmir and Kashmiri aspirations are more sacrosanct; for them the word from a Kashmiri leader is a word from the god. Their only duty is to obey their Kashmiri masters because they believe that they can promote their vested interests only if they remained on the right of their Kashmiri masters and their believe stems from the fact that New Delhi only recognizes the Kashmiri leadership and none else in the state. Their whole approach towards Jammu is disgusting. The Congress has five MLAs from Jammu, four from Kashmir and three from Ladakh but they go by what the JKPCC chief says. It's the writ of Ghulam Ahmad Mir that runs. The position was no different even when (2008-2014) the Congress had 13 MLAs from the Jammu region and three from Kashmir. All the Jammu-based MLAs danced to the tune of their Kashmiri-based party chief. They had no say and their only duty was to obey the diktats of the JKPCC chief. What about the Jammu-based NC leaders? Their attitude towards Jammu was no less hostile. The Jammu-based Congress leaders would do sometime muster courage to identify themselves with the Jammu sentiment as, for example, during the 2008 Amarnath land row, but no Jammu-based NC leader of any standing ever identified himself or herself with the Jammu cause. Contrarily, the Jammu-based NC leaders, without any exception, did all that they could to please their Kashmiri masters. And, what about the so-called pro-Jammu BJP? The BJP has 25 MLAs. Has any BJP MLA or any BJP MP or any BJP MLC or any BJP leader of any standing ever spoken a word for the people of Jammu since February 2015? The answer is simple and straight and the answer is a big NO. Contrarily, they joined hands against Jammu even before becoming part of the state government. They not only surrendered the Jammu's rights in their bid to befriend Kashmiri leadership but also put at stake the very unity of the state by endorsing the Kashmiri sinister view that the state was a disputed territory. The BJP even left the Congress and the NC far behind and went to the extent of saying that "India is misusing the J&K land and its territory and it will see to it that all the centrally-controlled power projects in the state are handed over to the state government". Not only this, when the people of Jammu observed a massive shutdown to persuade the Union Government to establish the promised AIIMS in Jammu, the BJP said "no power on earth can snatch AIIMS from Kashmir and it will not be established in Jammu". The fact of the matter is that Jammu has lawmakers but not a leader and the result is that Jammu continues to suffer enormous political and economic losses. It's no wonder that the people of Jammu have lost their faith in all these parties and finding themselves in a peculiar situation and they are thinking in terms of having a new party which is committed to only two causes, Jammu cause and the national cause. There are reasons to believe that Jammu will have a new party sooner than later. |
