Madhav not visiting Kashmir punctures Govt formation | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 14: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Ram Madhav not visiting Kashmir on Sunday has once again put the question mark over the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources told that Madhav changed his plan to visit Kashmir on late Saturday evening as he could not finalize the terms with the BJP high command. Madhav was expected to hold talks with the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti to break the impasse over formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir following the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. PDP insiders said that Madhav postponed his Kashmir visit as it was conveyed to him that if talks are to be held these would be held after the Chelum (40th day mourning ceremony) of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. " BJP sources said that till now party top brass has not taken any final decision over the issues raised by the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and final meeting between Madhav and senior leaders is yet to take place. "A few BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir are spreading canards that Centre has agreed to the demand of returning one power project to JK but the fact is that Centre has not taken any decision in this regard so far," sources added. They said, "Ram Madhav is no authority to take any decision vis-a-vis government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. He is just a messenger. He can't come to Kashmir till Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the BJP party president Amit Shah authorize him to go ahead with the negotiations with PDP." Insiders claimed that BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir are unaware about the developments which are taking place in New Delhi. "Many BJP leaders still believe that no more concessions should be granted to PDP as it can set a bad precedence," they added. Sources claimed that BJP leaders want the party to adhere to its principles and the stand. "Till now PM Modi nor the BJP President Amit Shah have taken a final decision over how to handle the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir. If BJP doesn't reach on consensus over the issues raised by the PDP then there are bleak possibilities about any of the central leaders visiting Kashmir and meeting the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti in Kashmir," sources added. Meanwhile the BJP spokesman Khalid Jehangir tweeted: "Media fraternity … there is no schedule of Ram Madhav Ji visit to Kashmir valley # note." It is for the first time, since the demise of the then Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed that Khalid Jehangir has publicly commented over the developments of any government formation in Kashmir. Otherwise, he prefers silence. Since last week, rumors had been flying thick that Madhav would visit Kashmir for negotiations with the Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti. A senior PDP leader had conveyed the same to media persons. "Madhav is expected to meet the PDP president tomorrow or day after. The day and time of the meeting will be finalized once the BJP leader arrives in Kashmir," a senior PDP leader had told the news agency. Madhav, who played a crucial role in forging an alliance with the ideologically opposite PDP last year, was expected to convey a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Mehbooba on government formation. Initially, Mehbooba, who is tipped to be the next CM if PDP and BJP form the government again, refused to take oath of office during the mourning period for her father. The PDP president then started dragging her feet on government formation saying the Centre needed to take steps for implementation of 'Agenda of Alliance' arrived at between the two parties. The BJP has already sought more time from Governor NN Vohrra over government formation when the National Conference wants the assembly be dissolved and new elections held. |
