Kishtwar, Feb 14: A monthly mega Gram Sabha, in which over 800 people participated, was organized in panchayat Karool C of Sarthal here.
It was held on the initiative of sarpanch Mohammad Aslam Saroori at Bhagran village and was also attended by VLW Irshad Ahmed Kichloo, Secretary Panchayat RDD, Vice Sarpanch, Panches and people of Karool C panchayat.
The aim of organizing this meeting was to review and assess the progress of MGNREGA works.
The sarpanch, in his address, said the villagers were working hard under MGNREGA scheme in the area, but there were a few people who wanted to disturb the peace in the area by spreading false propaganda among the poor and innocent people and added that these people only want to receive MGNREGA job card holders' money without doing any work.
He said the gram sabha which holds the highest power in Panchayat Raj Act won't let such things happen and clarified that no one will get the money without doing any work under the said scheme.
He said that any claim made by those elements with regard to receiving MGNREGA money without doing any work is false and asked the RDD officials to take stern action against those elements without wasting any time.
He advised the job card holders to seek 100 days guaranteed job days from the RDD and assured them that no one in the department will stop their wages if they have done the MGNREGA works and added that job card holders are entitled for the wages only after doing work.
He also made it clear that some miscreants were spreading propaganda against him as regards the purchase of plastic water tanks. The tanks belonged to me and not the department, he claimed.
He also said that the work carried out under MGNREGA at Sarthal was to an exceptional level with flawless development and added that the work had been undertaken on the ground and not only in papers. "Nowadays a few people are befooling the public with rumours that in Sarthal hardly any works exist on ground.
The gram sabha welcomes any inquiry to clear all the doubts," said Saroori.
He said that just for politically motivated gains, these propagandists, who had failed to defame the panchayat in the past, were again trying to do so.
The speakers on this occasion also demanded an inquiry against such elements who were inimical to peace and development of the area.
The RDD officials assured the villagers that grievances of the public would be redressed in accordance to the MGNREGA guidelines.
