CWA demands to implement FSSA | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 14: A deputation of Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) lead by Er Vikram Gour, President DP Khajuria and Chander Parkash Sharma, Secretary of CWA called on Dr. MK Bhandari, commission Secretary, Health and Commissioner Food Safety and Controller Drugs and Food Control Organization. They demanded strict implementation and enforcement of Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA)in view of the large scale sale of adulterated and unhygienic manufacture and sale of all kind of eatables by unauthorized and unregistered outlets all over the Jammu Region especially the most thickly populated area under Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC). It was pointed out by CWA that most of the staff authorized under FSSAI to enforce provisions of Food Safety Act are unqualified or ill-qualified and are not conversant even with FSSA itself. It was stressed that at least the Designated Officers appointed under the FSSA should be qualified Medical Officers. CWA suggested that for the JMC/SMC there should be at least two Designated Officers (Health Officers) nominated exclusively for Food Safety. Other points taken up with Com/secy Health included prescription and sale of Generic Medicines, registration of Nursing Homes and fixation of rate structure as per facilities available, registration of all medical clinics run by Doctors and Pathological Labs and uniformity of their rate structure. |
