Chief Justice for effective mechanism to deal with pendency of cases

JAMMU, Feb 14: Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar Sunday called for expediting the process of clearing pending cases in the courts to ensure speedy delivery of justice.
"Effective monitoring mechanism needs to be established at various levels especially at the level of presiding judges to look into the causes of delay and take appropriate measures to clear the backlog," the Chief Justice said while speaking at the inauguration of a day-long workshop at High Court Complex here today. The theme of the workshop was "Delay and Arrears Problems and Solutions: Strategy and Directions."
The Chief Justice said that the Principal District Judges must regularly inspect the courts under their control to look into the pendency of cases.
He said today's workshop was organized with a special purpose to suggest the ways and means for clearing the backlog cases, in particular the old cases. He said institutionalized efforts are being made by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to deal with the issue of pendency of cases. He said for bringing down the pendency of cases in J&K, 38 Special Mobile Courts were created in the State.
He said non-serving of notice is also one of the reasons for delay in timely disposal of cases adding that the said issue must be taken care of by the presiding judge.
Judges of High Court, Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Justice Tashi Rabstan, Justice Bansi Lal Bhat, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal, Justice B S Walia also spoke on the occasion and gave their suggestions regarding speedy disposal of pending cases.
Registrar General, J&K High Court Mr. M. K. Hanjura presented welcome address while as Director J&K State Judicial Academy Mr. Abdul Rashid Malik presented vote of thanks on the occasion.
