Early Times Report
REASI, Mar 10: Protesting against the functioning of the department of Consumer affairs and public Distribution (CAPD), the people of District Reasi, rue the non availability of ration in several areas of District.
According to reliable sources, the MLA Reasi, Ajay Nanda in a meeting last year said that government is committed to raise the socio economic status of the rural people as well as to provide all the basic amenities along with developmental infrastructure, but the people of the district were facing acute scarcity of ration in some areas.
Locals rued that the department which is supposed to provide the ration to the people has no mechanism to check the pilferage and as a result poor people are deprived of their legitimate due. Sources said that many of the villages as well as Tehsil suffered from the acute Shortage of Ration and still the people are facing the same problem.
"It seems that there is some conspiracy in creating scarcity of ration through vested interests of incapable officers", said sources. "Majority of the population of the area is poor and they depend on the supply of the ration from the government depots and the people will starve if they do not get the ration at appropriate time," said a local.
A number of dealers of the district when contacted said that there was no supply of ration from the department for the month of February and the people faced the problem as the ration was not available with any of the ration depots.
AD CAPD Reasi when contacted said that the strike of the labourers was the main reason behind the delay in the ration supply and everything is normal now. He said that the ration for the month of February is to be given with the supply for the month of March. He added that the ration supply for both the months have already started in district and the ration will be given on the basis of NFSA Act.
