'Quit official bungalows' order upsets ex-BJP Ministers | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 10: The former BJP and PDP Ministers should have imitated the family of late Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed and vacated on their own the official bungalows latest by February 8, but they didn't for obvious reasons. The family of late Mufti Sayeed had vacated the official residence of Chief Minister at Wazarat Road, Jammu, immediately after the demise of Mufti Sayeed and set a good precedence. They could have stayed in the official residence for one month, but they decided otherwise and for right reasons. It was expected that the PDP and BJP Ministers would follow suit and shift to their own houses, but they chose otherwise. And the result was that the Governor's administration was left with no other option but to issue notices on Wednesday to all the former Ministers asking them to vacate the palatial houses within one week failing which the administration would take recourse to other methods to get the official bungalows vacated. "….You are requested to kindly handover the possession of the Ministerial bungalow allotted to you in your capacity as Hon'ble Minister to the Estates department within seven days from the date of issuance of this communication," read the notice slapped on the former Ministers by the State's Estates Department. It is pertinent to mention here that former Ministers have been occupying official bungalows both in Jammu and Srinagar. While the number of such bungalows located in Jammu is nine, the number of official bungalows still under the occupation of Ministers is 13. Last month, a report says, the Governor's administration had "turned down a proposal for continuation of Ministerial-type accommodation facilities" to former PDP-BJP Ministers. The notices directing the former Ministers to quit the official bungalows within the stipulated period has upset especially the former BJP Ministers. For, they had been hoping against hope that the PDP would soon form Government with the PDP and they would be re-inducted in the Ministry. "The Governor's administration has acted in haste. He should have waited for some more time as the discussions on the formation of the PDP-BJP Government are still going on. Of course, we will vacate the bungalows, but our problem is that our detractors in the party and outside would laugh at us," said a credible source quoting a former BJP Minister. Interestingly, the bungalow vacation order has evoked a very positive response from the general masses. |
