BJP man makes desperate move to woo PDP | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 10: Out of power BJP leaders seemed to have lost the plot and are trying their best to appease its estranged ally Peoples Democratic Party. In a desperate move to woo the PDP one of the former BJP minister on Wednesday crossed the line saying, "BJP is not averse to holding dialogue with Hurriyat leadership." The BJP leader said: "Whatever is mentioned in Agenda of Alliance will be pursued and implemented. We are not averse to the dialogue with Hurriyat leadership, even we are ready to persuade NHPC to hand over power projects to the state. We didn't and will not backtrack. Agenda of Alliance will surely be implemented after the formation of the PDP-BJP government in the state," a senior BJP leader said. Reacting to the statement of the senior BJP leader, who was also a minister in late Mufti's cabinet, an analyst said, "His statement depicts how desperate BJP leaders are to retain power. It is news to us that BJP is not averse to holding talks with Hurriyat. If government is not formed BJP leaders in Jammu would say they are not averse to holding talks with terrorists also." He said, "BJP central leadership has made it clear that no talks can be held with the separatists till they shun separatism and join the national mainstream. And talks have to be held within the ambit of the constitution." The analyst said, "Someone should ask the BJP leader who is he to declare that his party is not averse to holding talks with separatists. If it's the party line then it's really unfortunate. It seems BJP can go to any extent for the sake of power." A politician said, "BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir are trying their best to ensure that PDP joins hands with the party again so that they can once again enjoy the power. They have no objection in talking to Hurriyat if they get back their ministries and chairs." "Since the day government has fallen the BJP leaders and ministers have left no opportunity to woo the PDP. They have maintained silence over the demand of rotational chief minister and are even ready to handover major portfolios to PDP. They just want access to secretariat and want to move in a cavalcade. The performance of the BJP ministers during the 10-months of the government was nothing more than a big zero. When late Mufti was alive they acted as second fiddles to the PDP ministers. They had no say in the government," said a Kashmir watcher. He recalled that BJP ministers were provided training to learn the basics of the governance. |
