Forest employees grab 20 kanal land in Baramulla forests | | | Majid Nabi Early Times Report srinagar, Mar 10: Some Forest department employees have grabbed 20 kanals and 4 marlas forest land in village Zandfaran in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Sources said that a helper and a forester who are enjoying patronage of Chief Conservator have encroached huge chunk of forest land in Baramulla and despite strict directions the encroachers have been continuously violating the orders. "Despite relentless efforts by Deputy Forest Officer to ensure that the land be freed from the clutches of encroachers, he has been pressurized by the higher-ups not to intervene in the matter," sources told 'Early Times'. They said that the forest land comprising twenty marlas and four kanals is still under the illegal possession of these employees and despite court directions nothing substantial has been done so far. "These employees are enjoying the patronage of Chief Conservator who has been pressurizing his juniors not to coerce his pets to free the Government land. Even High Court directions were violated with the authorities seems to be in no mood to go against their bosses," sources said. The letter shot by the Range Forest Officer (RFO) which was served as last warning to intruders categorically warned them to leave the forest land else strict actions will be taken against them "Since you have already been warned through notices issued by the department to free the forest land compartment number 3, you have been continuously violating the order. Forest department needs this and to be free you are once again warned to comply with the departmental order,'' reads the letter which lies with 'Early Times'. The letter further reads that "you are again requested to free the land which is in the interest of both parties, you are again warned to free the land in 72 hours else a legal action will be initiated against you", adding the letter should be deemed as final warning and do cooperate with the department to free the encroached land. When this correspondent talked to locals, they claimed that the authorities despite being aware of the land grab have turned a blind eye towards the issue. "We have been protesting against the criminal approach adopted by the authorities however our pleas have fallen flat on deaf ears, we have no personal interests or any animosity with the officials who have encroached the land but we want the land to be freed at any cost," Ajaz Ahmad Malik a local resident said. He said that the encroachers have been threatening locals of dire consequences in case they raise their voice against them. "On one hand we are being threatened while on the other authorities have been miserably failed to free the land, either the Government should take some concrete steps against the encroachers or they should be given the proprietary status to them," Mohammad Subhan said. |
