Arohi Sangeet Vidyalaya Celebrates International Women's Day

JAMMU, Mar 10 : In connection with the celebrations of International Women's Day, Arohi Sangeet Vidyalaya- a voluntary cultural society of Jammu in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages and Dogra College of Education Jammu organised today a programme on Indian Classical Music at Bari Brahmana.
Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association K. Vijaya Rajendra was chief guest on the occasion. Secretary, Labour Employment Department Nirmal Sharma, Director Doordarshan Kendra Jammu Anjeli Sharma and Principal Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shastri Nagar Farida Javed were guests of honour.
Principal Dogra College of Education Shefali Sharma presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson, while highlighting the importance of the day said that International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future. She said that it is a day when women are recognised for their achievements regardless of divisions whether national cultural economical or political levels.
She said that the significant role played by women in social, economic, political, educational and judicial fronts is highly appreciable adding that to usher on a new era of social development, granting of equal rights and equal decision-making power to women is the only way forward.
The Chairperson said that the day also aims to initiate more effective actions to safe guard the rights of women in the society. She said various schemes including marriage assistance scheme, Hunar and Laadli Beti scheme and other schemes have been launched by the government for the betterment of women folk in the state.
She said that the scheme 'Beti Bechao Beti Padhao' to empower the women in the society in a long run needs to be implemented in letter and spirit in each nook and corner of the state.
Secretary, Labour Employment Department, Director Doordarshan Kendra, Jammu and Principal Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shastri Nagar spoke about the legal rights of women.
