Resentment brews in Poonch as officials mess up flood package | | | MS Nazki Early Times Report
Poonch, Mar 15: Recently announced flood package for J&K worth Rs. 458.11 Crore has triggered resentment among the people of this frontier district alleging that the district has been completely ignored by the officials vis-à-vis compensation. Strong resentment is brewing among the people from all walks of life in Poonch against district administration as it has failed to finalize compensation package for the district. Many areas in Poonch witnessed a devastating floods in September 2015 and were highly affected some of the areas which suffered huge damages include, Mendhar, Surankote, Poonch, Mandi Balakote and Mankote. People of these areas have been running from pillar to post to complete their files for the compensation but till date they haven't achieved anything. "We have submitted our bank accounts numbers to authorities but they have made mistakes while entering the digits" said a resident. People Democratic Party (PDP) general secretary Advocate Nadeem Khan told Early Times that gullible public of Poonch have been looted by Revenue Officials on one or other pretext while preparing their files and the officials have also made mistakes while entering the Bank account numbers of the people which is highly condemnable and warned authorities to take strict action against the erring officials. Meanwhile District Development Commissioner Poonch, MH Malik when contacted told Early Times that Government has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 20.79 Cr for the flood hit people of Poonch district which comprises of 655 flood affected families and the amount would be distributed among them in second phase after completing the formalities, the DDC said. |
