SVO may book IGP for 'grabbing' state land | | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 15: The State Vigilance Organization (SVO) is contemplating to book an Inspector General of Police (IGP) for allegedly encroaching nearly nine kanals of land belonging to Irrigation and Flood Control Department. According to documents in possession of Early Times, the Vigilance Organization has sought information of the khasra number of the land measuring nearly nine kanals encroached allegedly by the IGP level officer. The letter forwarded by SP Vigilance to Tehsildar Jammu West reads: "In connection with the probe in the verification number 07/2015 P/S VOJ, you are requested to furnish the khasra number of under construction house of IGP and his brother, along with Aks Shajra/Map of Nandni village pointing the location of mentioned house and its adjoining area along with the list of total beneficiaries (by name) area acquired/year of occupation, who have encroached in Nikki Tawi area of village Nandini/ Karnail Chak/Chak Lalu Shah in which settlement works was done recently". The communique further reads, "If revenue entry was recorded on the name of above mentioned persons please furnish the same since its date of occupation to till date". The SP had asked the Tehsildar to furnish the information within two days considering the matter as most urgent. Sources said the land encroached by the IGP belongs to Irrigation and Flood Control department and falls under Khasra number 302 but still the Vigilance Organization has sought details to formally lodge an FIR in this regard. They further said that though a joint commission was also constituted by Divisional Commissioner Jammu to ascertain the reports regarding encroachment of state land, which was yet to submit the report despite lapse of many months after expiry of time period given to the Joint Commission headed by District Development Commissioner Jammu. "Though a report was submitted by none other than Director Land Records to the Home department for initiating action against all the police officers, found involved in encroachments of government land but instead of initiating action, the Home department remained mum over the issue", sources said, adding that the Home department in turn wrote to Secretary Revenue to give his comments on the issue, rather than initiating action. |
