DB directs personal appearance of Comm Secy SWD over Juvenile justice boards | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 15: A Division Bench of J&K High Court today directed Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare to appear in person regarding the constitution of Juvenile Justices Boards in the state. Hearing Public Interest Litigation (PIL) a Division Bench comprising Justice M H Attar and B S Walia directed this also ordered state government to ensure that the two infants with neurological disorders are not abandoned or handed over to any person, authority or organization which is not registered. Court also directed the Medical Superintendent GB Pant Hospital to take all necessary steps for looking after these two infants abandoned in the hospital. Division Bench also directed Additional Advocate General Shahbaz Sikander to provide copy of the status report filed by Commissioner Secretary to Social Welfare Department regarding the constitution of JJBs in the state to senior AAG N A Beigh. The senior AAG was asked to take the matter with Registrar General of the High Court and file status report before the registry by next date of hearing in the PIL. Court also had directed Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare to appear in person regarding the constitution of Juvenile Justices Boards in the state. The court was hearing a PIL filed by one Tanvi Ahuja, a resident of Haryana, alleging that thousands of juveniles had been arrested over the years under the Jammu & Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978, (PSA) and the Ranbir Penal Code (equivalent to the IPC) instead of being tried under the State Juvenile Justice Act, 2013. |
