Jammu, Mar 15 : SKUAST-J, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Advisory Board for Development of Kissan and all allied departments of Agriculture Sectors, Govt. of J&K is organizing a two day Kisan Mela-2016 from March 18-19, 2016 at its Main Campus, Chatha. The Mela will be inaugurated by Governor N.N Vohra, who is also the Chancellor of the SKUAST-Jammu. The major focus of the mela will be on exhibition of proven technologies to improve agricultural productivity, profitability and sustainability of the farmers of the Jammu region. Director Extension Dr. K.S. Risam informed that the event will be unique in its endeavor to provide a platform to the policy makers, government officials, farmers, farm women, livestock owners, agri-buisness & industry entrepreneurs etc. to exchange their innovative ideas in the field of agriculture, horticulture, livestock production and other allied sectors. The Kissan Mela will be attended by more than 5,000 progressive farmers and farm women of the Jammu province. Dr. Vivak M. Arya, Convener Media revealed that the Kisan Mela will provide an opportunity to the farmers to get equipped with the latest varieties and technologies demonstrated at the University Research Farm. A livestock show will also be organized during the Kissan Mela alongwith the sale counter of various good quality seed and plant material. Field visits for the farmers to various units of the university shall be the components of Kissan Mela alongwith the Kissan Ghoshti. Various progressive farmers and farm women from different districts of Jammu province will be felicitated for their contribution in their respective fields by the University. |
