BARAMULLA, Apr 3: Prior to the holding of Panchayat elections, scores of voters have been wrongly entered in different wards of Halqa Jalsheeri in this North Kashmir district allegedly for personal interests.
Sources told Early Times that arbitrary transfer of voters from one ward to another ward in Halqa Jalsheeri of Baramulla block has sent a wrong signal to the corridors of power since the same has been done purely for personal interests.
"Halqa Jalsheeri comprises of seven wards, having 1074 voters among which hundreds of voters have been allegedly transferred from one ward to another ward for the lust of power and other personal interests," sources said.
Sources said that there is wrong entry of 160 voters in ward number 1 followed by ward number 2 with 128 voters, ward number 3 with 107 voters, ward number 4 with 193 voters, ward number 5 with 168 voters, ward number 6 with 133 voters and ward number 7 with 183 voters.
"For personal interests officials of Rural Development Department (RDD) have unnecessarily entered many voters in different wards who were already existed in the previous wards because they have received huge sum of money from the future candidates who are supposed to contest the Panchayat elections in near future," sources said.
A local Panch Sameer Ahmad Geelani said that he has brought the matter into the notice of BDO Baramulla, adding that Panchayat Inspector and Village Level Worker (VLW) have made wrong entries. He said that some of the employees of RDD have been bribed by few people who want to contest elections in the forthcoming Panchayat elections.
"Without taking Sarpanch, Panch and other members of Panchayat into the confidence, the concerned department have deliberately ignored them and got a chance to make new entries in their list," he said.
BDO Baramulla, Ghulam Mohammad Sofi said, "I have constituted a committee headed by Panchayat Inspector. The voters can bring the objections once the enquiry is complete. We have gone through the previous assembly electoral roll and there is nothing wrong in it, I will look into the matter."
It is pertinent to mention here that Panchayat elections were supposed to be held in the ongoing month, but due to the delay in government formation, process may take some more time.
