Mehbooba means business | | | ET Report Jammu, Apr 4: The deserted chambers and quiet corridors of Civil Secretariat suddenly turned alive today when the new Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and her council of ministers reached there to assume office. Soon after taking oath at Rajbhawan Mehbooba Mufti went straight to Secretariat and stayed there for nearly an hour only to give a loud and clear message to bureaucracy as also the new ministers that she means 'business' in running the government she heads now. Sources said as the Secretariat bustled with activity -movement of vehicles and a huge rush of visitors, the new Chief Minister without wasting time made it not only to her office but also attended a couple of meetings. These meetings, which even though not so important in terms of any agenda, were seen more as intended to given a loud message to all in the echelons of power, sources said. Though she stayed for nearly an hour, she utilized this meaningfully, sources said adding that she hurriedly called the meeting of Commissioner Secretaries in which she took an overview report of the working of administration from them. In the meeting she is learnt to have conveyed in clear terms that she wants her government to work in a transparent and accountable manner in which welfare of people and development of the state through welfare measures and schemes were the priority. The bureaucracy was given a loud signal that they should not be just accessible to people but also solve their problems without delay or administrative hiccups. By convening meeting of senior officers heading various key departments, the message has gone far and wide within secretariat and in outside offices that she will neither allow complacency nor smugness on part of the administration in delivering, sources said. She would not allow writ of bureaucracy run high any more in the matters of governance, sources said as the Chief Minister of new dispensation having conveyed it with her presence on the first day in office. The new Chief Minister also held meeting with her party ministers later in her office chamber which was equally aimed at giving a clear message that she wants her government to be strong and vibrant in performance yet the acts and works have to be flawless and unblemished. This is an opportunity and chance to prove worth before the public that alliance government will deliver in a manner desired by them, sources said adding that it was also conveyed that the government has to tag itself with 'corruption free' expression in letter and spirit. |
