Delhi businessman saves ministerial berth of BJP minister | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 4: Despite stiff opposition by the party as well as the Sangh Parivar, a BJP MLA managed to secure one berth in the new council of ministers led by the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti. While other Legislators were just speculating about their chances of being included in the cabinet and were seeking feedback from different quarters, this BJP MLA was hobnobbing with the party's national president Amit Shah, Sushma Swaraj and a top RSS functionary in New Delhi. According to the highly placed sources, this lobbying at top level was managed by a businessman friend of Amit Shah, who succeeded to strike a deal in lieu of ministerial berth to the BJP MLA for second time. As there was huge pressure from the party and Sangh Parivar for excluding this MLA from the new ministry owing to serious allegations against him, it took two successive days to secure consent of Amit Shah and other top leaders, sources added. As Sukhnandan Choudhary challenged his exclusion from the ministry by questioning the credentials of this MLA, sources said, adding the high command as well as Ram Madhav could not give any satisfactory reply to him. This was the only reason that a communication to this blue eyed MLA for taking oath as minister as well as Sham Choudhary was delayed till early this morning even as all other selected persons were intimated about their oath late last night, sources informed. They claimed that state unit of BJP had recommended the sacking of this minister due to his style of functioning and attitude. The state unit was unanimous in showing door to that arrogant minister. Insiders claimed that the Minister has promised this Delhi and Chandigarh based businessman a big deal. This businessman was earlier known to be very close to Congress party but these days this businessman has shifted his loyalty towards BJP. Retaining some ministers, who were involved in corrupt practices, has annoyed BJP workers and leaders. They are upset over high command not showing exit door to those who have always treated party workers shabbily. Credible sources said the party-cadre are not happy over corrupt ministers, who are working under the influence of power brokers and traders, being retained. There is a feeling among cadre that party leadership has failed to adopt similar yardsticks for all ministers and those who deserved to be shown the door have been retained at the cost of genuine aspirants. |
