srinagar, Apr 4: While the previous PDP-BJP Government failed to crack whip on the tainted officials in various administrative departments, all eyes are now on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to play her role in eliminating the muck from the system for a clean administration.
Sources said that a corruption-free administration figures high on the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's priority list as she prepares to form a team of trusted officers to run the Government.
Sources said that on Monday Mehbooba Mufti asked the Ministers and Administrative Secretaries that Government shall be transparent, without any area based discrimination & corruption free. "We will take JK to new heights," Sources quoting Mehbooba having said.
Mehbooba had promised the electorate overall development in the State, besides ensuring a good, transparent and corruption-free administration.
Sources said that Mehbooba has already screened State bureaucrats to pick 'honest officers' to form her team.
Mehbooba, the sources said, is likely to prepare his team from the honest officers.
Sources said that Mehbooba will, in all likelihood, sideline the tainted officers.
Reliable sources said that hundred of enquires are pending with the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) against dozens of officials in various administrative departments facing charges of corruption.
According to the official figures, the SVC has received 3353 complaints in the last three years of which 985 were received in 2013, 1168 in 2014 and 1200 in 2015.
"Of the 3353 cases, 2928 have been disposed-off for further course of action. However, there has been poor response from departments to take action on the SVC enquiries," the official said. The SVC has sent queries related to corruption in departments but there had been poor response from the Government to act on these enquiry reports resulting there hardly seems any perceptible change on the ground to combat with corruption cases in the State.
The officers of departments were directed to take departmental action on the inquiry reports, wherever necessary, and not to wait for the outcome of inquiry/investigation being conducted on the same charges by Vigilance Organization or SVC. However sources said that nothing has been done in this regard.
One of the PDP Ministers who took oath on Monday admitted that corruption was a major challenge in the State with various anti-graft agencies having received thousands of complaints in this regard. "Corruption is a major challenge for the Government and its adverse effects on the society cannot be underestimated" he said.
On question about delay in solving pending cases in the previous PDP BJP Government, he said, "Collection of relevant records required in investigation takes a lot of time. Expert opinion from various agencies like FSL, Forest, Industries, Agriculture, etc, takes time. It requires a lot of manpower to finalize the case," he said
