| BJP prefers 'separatist' Sajad over nationalist Pawan | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Apr 4: The BJP has once again proved that it has no place in its scheme of things for those who talk nationalism, oppose Kashmiri Muslim sub-nationalism and speak for and fight for the ignored, neglected and humiliated people of Jammu province. The manner in which the BJP dropped Pawan Gupta from Udhampur, who had won the Assembly elections hands down defeating the BJP candidate despite the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had held a public rally in Udhampur, and the manner in which it gave from its quota a Cabinet berth to separatist and People's Conference president Sajad Lone - a votary of status of nationhood to Kashmir, has dumbfounded not only the people of Udhampur but the entire nationalist camp in the State in general and Jammu province in particular.
Pawan Gupta had become associate member of the BJP after the Assembly election and it happened at the initiative of the BJP itself. The BJP took him into its fold considering his qualifications, capability and ability. He was perhaps the most effective and vocal Minister from Jammu in the Mufti Sayeed-led coalition Government.
Pawan Gupta was the only Minister from Jammu who spoke for and fought for Jammu and took cudgels with the Finance Minister not on one occasion but on several occasions. He even held a press conference to register his objections against the Finance Minister and to tell the general public that he had been assigned no work and that he was not taken into confidence when the budget for the financial year 2015-2016 was prepared and presented. His non-inclusion in the Council of Minister on April 4 has only led the people to believe that certain elements in the BJP hatched a conspiracy against Pawan Gupta so that the BJP is in a position to play anti-Jammu games unhindered and unchecked. But more than that, they have questioned the very approach of the BJP towards Sajad Lone, who wrote a seditious book, The Achievable Nationhood, to establish that he was anti-India and pro-azadi by conviction. That the BJP preferred Lone over Gupta speaks for itself.
It was for nothing that the people of entire Udhampur district on Monday lambasted the BJP and bemoaned the non-inclusion of Pawan Gupta in the Council of Ministers. The BJP will have to pay a very heavy price for what it did to pro-nation and pro-Jammu Pawan Gupta. |
