Let Mehbooba allow security forces to tackle militancy
4/4/2016 11:24:27 PM
That militants continue to be active in the Kashmir valley is evident from the way a police party that had gone to investigate into an ATM theft case in south Kashmir's Pulwama district in which one head constable was injured. There are series of challenges before the coalition Government that was expected to be headed by MehboIt is not going to be an easy affair for the state's first woman Chief Minister to run the show when parts of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the valley, has been troubled by over 26-year long Pakistan sponsored militancy. Senior Army functionaries believe that there are over 200 militants active in the Kashmir valley which is not a small number. And agencies across the LOC,especially the Pak Army, were trying to push groups of militants into the Indian state soon after the border routes get passable with the melting of snow from end of this mornth or the beginning of the next month.Even if small groups of militants manage to sneak into the valley it would further destabilize peace in the state. Dangers posed by the activities of militants is one such major challenge before Mehbooba led coalition Government. Well during the last over 80 days there have been a number of encounters between the militants and the security forces in which a number of security personnel and militants lost their lives and several others were injured. No doubt militants, operating in Jammu nd Kashmir, have not been able to carry out Fidayeen attacks on the scale one witnessed in Lahore and other parts of Pakistan, still even small incidents of violence could destabilise peace in Jammu and Kashmir which may discourage industrialists from investing in the sector of industry in the state. With the Central Government's plan to release additional funds for implementing various development schemes peace and only peace is required for timely completion of those schemes. Judged from the dangers ahead on account of subversive plans of militants it is hoped that Mehbooba Mufti led Government leaves the task of handling militants and their supporters to the security forces.Already the Army functionaries have asked troops, deployed on the LOC and the BSF, guarding the IB, to remain on the alert for foiling each and every infiltration bid from militants. These inst ructions have gone to the troops following reports that border routes were becoming passable within weeks time and the level of ingress of militants may sitness sudden increase. In this connection both the troops and the BSF have been told to make use of latest gadgets for monitoring movement of militants across the border so that timely steps were taken to check their infiltration. At one stage Governor, N.N.Vohra had suggested to the Army, paramilitary forces and the police to avoid killing innocent people and he was simply referring to an incident in Pulwama district during an encounter between militants and the security forces where a woman and a boy were killed. But the suggestion given by the Governor had demoralized the security forces who have, during the last two months, tried to play safe. And Mehbooba led Government should avoid demoralizing security forces that would simply boost the morale of the separatists, militants and their supporters. Let Mehbooba concentrate on development and on the settlement of various problems of people and if she does so success is assured. But if she starts interfering with the security forces to gain peoples' goodwill that may simply prevent her from resolving basic problem of people, which are mainly related to energy crisis, unemployment, Food security Act and maladministration with reference to increase in the level of corrupt practices. People wish the BJP and the PDP coalition Government to launch a war against corruption.
