JU in hibernation, HODs harass scholars | | | Avinash Azad Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 6:University of Jammu has become an arena where the higher authorities accompanied by HOD History Prof Shalendra Singh Jamwal, is playing petty politics with the research scholars of Dr. Nirmal Singh presently Deputy Chief Minister of J&K. The scholars are being harassed mentally and verbally by the HOD history who on one hand gives all the directions to the scholars to do research work, and on the other hand same HOD (History) forwarded the letter to the vice chancellor with annexure of DRC meeting of 16th March to stop the process so that research scholars won't be able to submit the thesis mentioning that some scholars have shortage of attendance. "Minutes of the DRC attached with the letter say that 80 per cent attendance is compulsory for the research scholars in the initial two years which is nowhere mentioned in the statutes governing the Ph.D. research work", said an scholar, adding that if rules were made in the DRC of 16th March,2016, they would not be implemented in retrospection. The scholar further said that the DRC of a single Department does not possess the power to make rules and statutes governing the Ph.D of so many scholars in the University. "If the shortage was a matter of such a great concern, why HOD history gave the extension to these scholars, why he has signed the progress reports after every six months and again he signed the covering letter of the panel which was sent to dean social sciences a few days back", he questioned and termed the move as a criminal offence by the HOD history. The scholar claimed that none of the scholars in the History department particularly and University of Jammu in general has 80 per cent attendance in the initial stage of two years. "It is the HOD and the University authorities who are deliberately targeting the scholars of Dr. Nirmal Singh which is clear from the recent letter sent by HOD history where the names of only two scholars are mentioned", he alleged. He further said that last month viva voce of a scholar working under HOD history was conducted. "She was not having even 50% attendance but her abstract submission, thesis submission and Viva was conducted smoothly only because she is HOD History's own scholar. HOD History is playing a naked dance of Nepotism and favouratism in the Department", he said. Moreover there are so many scholars in the university and particularly in department of history who do not possess 80 per cent attendance and it is firmly revealed by the attendance sheets received through RTI but still they submitted the abstracts ,thesis and also gave and some of them are going to give the viva-voce namely Nitu, Uddham Das, Megha Sharma, Nidhi Jasrotia, Anju Rani, Chanderkanta, Ramita Sharma, Dheeraj Bhardwaj. If all these scholars were allowed to submit thesis and dissertation without any objection, then why the scholars of Dr Nirmal Singh are being targeted?. The Minimum Standards and Procedure 2009 and statutes governing Ph.D in university of Jammu do not mention any 80 per cent attendance in the initial two years. Now on the final stage of submission these scholars are being targeted particularly by HOD history. |
