ARTO Reasi leaves vehicle owners in lurch

Early Times Report

Reasi, Apr 6: Notwithstanding the fact that the people respecting the administrative guidelines of governance do not falter deliberately, the principle of the political dispensation in executing its duties towards the people not adhering to its basics is most unfortunate.
Take the recent example in district Reasi, where a person from the position of responsibility relinquishes its post to join another post without assigning the earlier to the new incumbent led to a total chaos.
Mamta Rajput, an assistant regional transport officer at Reasi relieved her post on Thursday last, and without waiting for the new incumbent to join, left for her new place of posting .
This led to the total shutdown of the works at Reasi ARTO as the vehicles which were to be passed off for clearance got stuck in the process and were left clueless.
" Today we were to be issued the DL as today was Fitness Day of the vehicles as we were been given clearance to move ahead.
Now nearly 250-300 vehicles are struck at the Passing ground with no official on the duty to relieve our vehicles," said one of the truck divers whose vehicle too was stuck in the chaos.
The passing zone yard gave a quite awkward look of mayhem stuck in district Reasi as the large numbers of vehicles hoarded in the yard were not given clearance by the authorities.
The issuance of DL and PSV were due to the vehicles for which they were given a particular day today to get them their fitness certificates.
The relinquishing of the office of the RTO without doing the job and also not waiting for the other officer to join the duty has sent the entire system out of gear and inviting the drivers and public ire.
They were threatening to strike the roads tomorrow if their vehicles are not given the clearance.
"We cannot move on the road without getting the fitness certificate of the vehicles as traffic police is always on the hunt to get money shelled out of us whenever they get the chance.
The ARTO has played a wrong move and not giving the DL/PSV and clearance on the time amply suggests that it invites for corrupt practices.
The transport commissioner however said that he will take cognizance of the issue and see that new ARTO joins the duty as soon as possible.
He assured of getting the vehicles passed off the drivers and said that system would be cleared soon.
