Chittorgarh, Apr 6: A day after they were released on bail, Mewar University has decided to suspend 16 students from Jammu and Kashmir after some of them were arrested following a scuffle over the India-West Indies T20 World Cup match last week. India was defeated in the semifinal match. Nine students and one employee - all from J&K - of the privately owned Mewar University were arrested on Thursday after they got into a fight after the match. The students were released on bail Monday. "We have decided to take strong disciplinary action against these students. It needs to be understood that such actions will not be tolerated at the university," Harish Gurnani, the university's media liaision officer, told.
The university is also considering removing the employee involved in the clash. "The university administration suspended the 16 accused students, seven from Jammu and nine from Kashmir, till April 25, 2016, during which they would be barred from the hostel as well," Gurnani said. "After April 25, the students will be required to report to the university along with their parents/guardians and put across their side. After due consideration of the same, the university administration will take a final decision on their re-instatement," he added. |
