NIT Row: Various organizations protest against police atrocities on students; JPPF calls for 'Jammu Bandh' | Bar Association suspends work in Courts for two days in 'protest' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 6: As the NIT Srinagar issue yet has not subsided, various political and non political organizations have protested against the police action on non local NIT Students and have expressed their solidarity with the NIT students who allegedly face wrath first from local students and then police atrocities. Meanwhile Jammu Province People's Forum (JPPF), an amalgam of over 50 various social, commercial and other organizations criticizing State Government for appeasing anti national forces has called for 'Jammu bandh' tomorrow. Meantime Jammu Province People's Forum (JPPF), an amalgam of over 50 various social, commercial and other organizations, has strongly criticized the State Government for provoking anti-national activities in NIT Srinagar by hurting sentiments of nationalist forces. While addressing a press conference here today, JPPF Working President M S Katoch alleged that the Government was hell bent to destroy the peace and communal harmony in the State. Strongly condemning brutal lathicharge on the non-local students in NIT Srinagar by Jammu and Kashmir police, Katoch demanded fool proof security and protest for non-local (outsider) students in the NIT campus following clashes over hoisting of Tricolour amidst pro-India slogans after Indian lost to West Indies in T20 Matches. He also demanded judicial probe in the entire incident and strict action against the anti-national elements. He further said that such problems shall increase manifold and spread in India and abroad in view of the repeated incidents first in JNU and now in NIT campus. "JPPF unanimously decided to observe complete Bandh in Jammu on April 7," he said and appealed to all Jammuites to make the call a success in suppport of non-local students studying in NIT Srinagar. Mahant Rameshswar Dass, Inderjeet Khajuria, KK Paroch, Rajinder Singh, Balwan Singh, S Gajan Singh, Avinash Bhatia, B.S Jamwal, Suneeta Sharma, M.L Sharma, Rajiv Mahajan and Raju Saluja were also present in this conference. Meantime State President of Shiv Sena (Thackery) addressing the media persons Dimpy Kohli said that life of students belonging to other states is under threat and Modi led NDA Govt acting like a mute spectator to all the happenings in NIT Srinagar. Expressing solidarity, Dimpy Kohli said those who are saying Bharat Mata Ki Jai are beaten mercilessly and on the other hand BJP made an alliance with those who are faithful of Afzal Guru. Dimpy further said patriotic students are being made scapegoats by Modi govt only to earn money and not on the agenda of development and welfare of the people. He said Shiv Sena will not tolerate any discrimination with students and thus calls for complete peaceful Jammu Bandh on April 7 (Thursday). He also made a strong appeal to all traders and other organizations to observe bandh tomorrow in support of NIT students. Meanwhile General House meeting of J&K High Court Bar Association, under the chairmanship of its President Abhinav Sharma and other office bearers and discussed the untoward incident of beating the NIT students (non-local) and their safety in the valley. Various speakers spoke on the occasion and condemned the lapse on the part of the administration in not taking stern action against the culprits. General Secretary AP Singh, Joint Secretary Depesh Singh Pawar, Treasurer Rahul Sharma, YLA President Daljeet Singh Manhas and YLA Vice President Pardeep Majotra were also spoke in this meeting. As a mark of protest, the Bar Association has suspended the work in the High Court, District Courts and Tribunals onApril 6-7 Meantime Jammu Bar Association has stressed upon the authorities to ensure to curb such incidents in future to order to maintain peace and harmony in the entire state. National Secular Forum (NSF), today protest in University against JK Police, demanding the security of non-local students studying in NIT Srinagar. Addressing the gathering here today, Amit Sanotra state Secretary NSF, said last evening the students who were feeling insecure in the campus after some locals raised anti national slogans on March 31 and marched towards the gate carrying the tricolour to move out but they allegedly were thrashed by the Jammu and Kashmir police resulting injuries. He condemned the state government for pathetic dilemma of pro-India students on NIT Srinagar who were being assaulted, manhandled not only by the anti-national elements but were also threatened by local administrations and faculty members. Meanwhile Chamber of Commerce and industry (CCI) Jammu too has condemned the trail of incidents that happened at NIT Srinagar. CCI Jammu welcoming immediate deployment of CRPF ordered by the State government has demanded that this CRPF deployment be made permanent in the wake of situation that may reoccur. The Chamber questions the entry of Police inside the campus of NIT and demanded suspension of guilty Police Officers. At the same time Chamber condemned the statement made by some quarters in the government that it was a light lathi charge as the injuries inflicted on the students are a testimony that it was a very brutal lathi charge. The Chamber President also raise the issue with DGP K.Rajendra and sought safety of the students and take urgent necessary action. The Chamber also condemns the threats made by some faculty members in NIT and appeals to the Ministry of HRD to sack them with immediate effect. The CCI Jammu also appealed to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene immediately as the situation may go out of hand if the culprits are not booked and action taken. The Office bearers present in the Press Conference include Sham Lal Langer, Sr Vice President, Deepak Aggarwal, Jr Vice President, Arun Gupta, Secretary General. Crime Control & Research Organization's (CCRO) North India Chapter Additional Chief too has condemned barbaric action of police against the peacefully protesting students. "Our pro -Nationalist students are being assaulted, manhandled not only by anti-national element but even being threatened by local administration and members of faculty, he regretted. CCRO North Chief Deepu Ranotra demanded probe in this regard and suspension of police personals involved in it. He also demands suspension of colleage authority those who are involved in allowing & threatening the students. Additional chief CCRO Deepu Ranotra urged DGP of JKP to organize inquiry on the same and submission of report publically. Meantime the State Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Jammu & Kashmir Patron Leela Karan Sharma has condemned the brutal attack on students of NIT Srinagar by J&K Police. "Vishwa Hindu Parishad demands immediate withdrawal of J&K Police from NIT Campus and deployment of Paramilitary forces in the Campus to ensure safety and security of students, he said. Besides NIT incident, VHP also expresses its strong concern over the incident of burning of National Flag at State Dental College, Jammu a few days ago wherein one miscreant Medico was arrested. VHP leader demanded immediate rustication of Medico involved in flag burning incident at Jammu, rustication and arrest of miscreants at NIT Srinagar involved in threatening students from other states studying in Srinagar. VHP also demanded immediate lodging of FIR and arrest of all the J&K police personnel involved in Tuesday's lathicharge over students in the campus. VHP also warned of a nationwide repercussion in case the adequate steps to restore the honour of students are not taken. Democratic Pannun Kashmir (DPK) too has condemned the brutal police action on non-local students of NIT Srinagar. "Instead of protecting the non-local and acting against those who raise anti-national slogans, it is ironical that the reverse is happening. It means that the anti-nationalism is encouraged in the NIT campus." said Ravinder Jalali, convener of the party and further appealed to HRD Ministry to take immediate measures to ensure the safety of the non-locals and at the same time take appropriate action against the students and those involved in encouraging them for expressing anti-national venom at the campus. He also hailed non local students at NIT, saying DPK salutes brave students who held Indian flag high in NIT Srinagar. Meanwhile Youth Congres activists to register protest today gheraoed Dy CM's residence for defending police action on NIT students by terming it mild use of force. Youth Congress activists under the leadership of Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) chief Pranav Shagotra gathered outside the residence of Deputy Chief Minister to lodge their protest because Deputy Chief Minister had endorsed police action on non-local students of NIT Srinagar, who were holding peaceful demonstration. Addressing the Youth Congress activists, Pranav Shagotra said that nationalism of BJP has been exposed because students were brutally beaten for hoisting national flag in the NIT campus but Deputy Chief Minister was shameless in defending police action. Youth Congress activists tried to enter in to the residence of Dr Singh but they were prevented by the police and some were arrested. Later Senior leaders of JKPCC Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla and others reached at Police Station and got the Youth Congress activists released. Yet in another similar protest youth president Congress Udhampur Sumit Magotra today held a strong protest at Dhar Road to register their protest over police action on Nit students. Sumit lambasted BJP by saying that the party is favouring PDP only to remain in power. Meantime expressing concerns over the issue, the Kashmiri Pandit (KP) Sabha has asked state and centre governments to take strict measures to bring the situation under control. "The action by the police on the students is highly condemnable and the civil society of Kashmir should also pitch in to restore normalcy. Incidents like these have a direct impact on the institutions in rest of India where Kashmiri students are studying in thousands," Sabha leader said. The KP Sabha has expressed grave concern over the developing situation in NIT Srinagar where communal tension has flared up. The students who have been confined within the premises of the NIT are feeling scared after they were ruthlessly beaten up by the police. Before the situation takes an ugly turn and the conflagration spreads to other institutions and parts of the State, the State and Central Govt's should take strict measures to bring the situation under control. |
