Meagre wages of contractual lecturers discourage youth | 8 apply for 20 posts | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 10: Notwithstanding government's efforts to streamline derailed education system in state, the meagre wages of contractual lecturers is discouraging the educated youth, in a live example, only eight candidates were appeared for 20 posts of lecturers in Udhampur district. Reliable source in department concerned informed Early Times that the winter session starts in state and Director of School Education of both divisions have directed Chief Education Officers to appoint contractual lecturers for those schools where particular subjects' posts are lying vacant. Similarly, in district Udhampur the department has issued notification in various newspapers regarding appointments on contract basis in various subjects for ten Government Higher Secondary Schools falls in winter zone of the district but it was very astoundingly only eight applicants have applied for two subjects (Physics and Chemistry) against the 20 posts. The meagre emoluments being paid to contractual lecturers has been resulting in failure of government to even fill lecturer posts on contractual basis in those schools which effects directly the study of students enrolled in these schools. "The school education department has paid a little amount, Rs. 7000 per month to those contractual lecturers which is lesser than the basic salary of permanent appointees and is the only reason that the unemployed education youths not showing their interest in teaching line", pleading anonymity an unemployed educated youth said. These Higher Secondary Schools are situated dozens of kilometres away from district headquarter and the amount paid by government is not sufficient because it was spent for transportation, so that the youth are not interested to appear for these posts. Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Panchari said, "People” expectation from both lecturers are same but their salaries differences creates question on their mind that the lecturers appointed on little salaries, are they providing quality education to students". Repeated calls to Director School Education Jammu went in vain. |
