6 killed, 50 injured as bus falls into gorge at Doda

BHADERWAH, Apr 10: Tragedy struck Doda this afternoon after a bus fell into a deep gorge at Didwan on Doda-Dhar road, resulting in the death of six passengers, including a minor girl, and injuries to at least 50 others.
The ill-fated bus (JK02G/5723) was on its way from Doda to Dhar. It fell into a 250 ft deep gorge at Didwan, 19 km from Doda city, while giving pass to a vehicle coming from the opposite site, police sources said.
Soon after the bus rolled down into the gorge, locals started the rescue operation. They were later joined by police and civil administration.
The rescuers removed all the injured to the roadside, sources said and added that from there, they were shifted to the Doda district hospital in official vehicles.
Six of them were declared brought dead by the doctors. They included Adibia (5), daughter of Mohammad Shaki of Roti Padarna, Mohinder Singh (42), son of Ghirdhari Lal of Bidwan, Mohammad Shahid (27), son of Mohammad Shabir of Zahind, Prithvi Raj, son of Bidya Lal of Dhanater, Master Mohammad Sayed, son of Mohammad Amin of Ghath, and Ghulam Hussain, son of Mohammad Ramzan of Zahind.
Negligence of the driver was stated to be the reasom behind the incident.

Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Bhupinder Kumar said 10 seriously injured were airlifted to GMCH, Jammu.
He said they would ensure financial and medical help to the injured from district Red Cross fund and ex-gratia relief to the kin of those killed in the incident.
