Please hoist big TIRANGA flag in NIT Srinagar | | | Nikhil Gupta
Our Indian constitution was prepared by many people and moreover the constitution was largely copied from the Government of India act 1935 . There are many people who say that Mr B R Ambedkar made Indian constitution but they forget that he was only chairman of drafting committee and the committee itself had many members . There were inputs from a large number of other Indians also for the drafting of the constitution . Thus Indian constitution was democratically prepared by many Indians . The fundamental duties enumerated in Article 51A of Indian constitution constitute a constant reminder to the citizens that they have duties in building up a free, egalitarian, healthy and responsible society. These are expected to act as damper to reckless and anti-social activities on the part of some individuals. These duties though non enforceable and non justiciable broadly ask Indian citizens to abide by the constitution and respect its ideal and institutions; to cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspired our national struggle for freedom and to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India . The non local students of NIT Srinagar who raised TIRANGA flag in the campus did a noble thing as they were showing their nationalism . A simple cricket match cannot be the root cause of what happened in the NIT Srinagar . The immediate provocation was Kashmiri students celebrating India's T-20 World Cup defeat at Wankhede Stadium against the West Indies on Thursday, March 31, 2016. The non-Kashmiri students inside the campus took strong objection over the celebration after India's defeat. Clashes broke out between the local and non-Kashmiri students . Some non-local students also said that people from neighboring houses pelted stones at NIT's Tawi Hostel because they had celebrated India's win in previous matches. This time, the non-Kashmiri students retaliated by raising the tricolour and shouting "Bharat Mata Ki Jai". On Friday, April 1, non-Kashmiri students lodged a complaint against local students for celebrating India's defeat with the office of the NIT director . They also took out a rally in the campus with a tricolour in hand, leading to a confrontation with local students . At this point, the police entered scene and it "seized" the tricolour. With tensions escalating, the police remained stationed at the campus gates over the weekend to ensure calm. On Monday, April 4, non-local students boycotted classes and took to sloganeering, sitting on the varsity ground with a makeshift tricolour in hand, demanding that the police return their tricolour. Again, the J&K police entered the scene and non-local students were targeted. The police even entered hostel rooms to beat up students. By giving erroneous arguments some people for justifying the baton-charging on non-local students say that the police had to use force against students. It is my personal view that police lathi charge was not mild at all as shown by pictures of the bruised non local students . It is very surprising that Babu Nirmal singh who is holding charge of deputy chief minister of our J & K state initially said that lathi charge by police on the non local students of NIT Srinagar was mild . But a day after he described the assault on students at the NIT campus in Srinagar as "a mild lathi charge", Nirmal Singh, the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, told NDTV he had been misinformed of the facts. It is again very surprising . How can some officers or officials give false information to a deputy CM of a state ? Will those responsible for doing lathi charge on the nationalist students of NIT Srinagar be brought to justice ? What was the urgency to beat students who were raising national flag and complaining against anti national behavior of some people who celebrated Indian defeat ? Can any true Indian celebrate Indian defeat even if it is in cricket ? Is West Indies providing relief to Kashmir in time of need ? In my personal view Kashmir is safest with India only . The kashmiri students who celebrated Indian cricket match defeat should see the condition of those nations that separated from India . In Pakistan there is no freedom of speech and little real democracy . Bangladesh is no better . Just few days back some creepy organization threatened to wipe out hindus from India . I think such organizations are fortunate that India has no interest in unnecessary violence and India talks peace . Otherwise everybody knows what Russia and Israel can do to such organizations and everybody knows what America did to Iraq and to Afghanistan . The predominantly Christian European nations are almost ready to pounce upon the world wide terrorism and India should unite with them as India is a victim of terrorism . Moreover Pakistan is full of Punjabi sunni muslims and it is Punjabi language and culture that is dominant there . They will never give any importance to kashmiri language and culture . But India is a multi culture and multi ethnic democratic peace loving nation and here Kashmir is given special status via article 370 . Kashmir in India is a pampered state where financial emergency vide article 360 of Indian constitution cannot be imposed by the union . Jammu and Kashmir is poised to get the AIIMS and the IIT also . If bad treatment is given to our fellow Indian non local students in the state , this will dissuade the students and teachers to come to these institutions . These institutes without good faculty will be of no use . I request the concerned responsible people to take effective and strong affirmative action to instill confidence among outstation students in NIT Srinagar .The raising of national flag and chanting national slogans are a matter of pride and the state has to facilitate activities which propagate nationalism. Action should be taken against all such elements who are indulging in anti-national slogans and hoisting flags of Pakistan which amounts to supporting and propagating terrorism and separatism in the state and rest of country . The non Kashmiri students of NIT Srinagar have made some demands which should be considered by the competent authorities concerned . These demands say that a National Flag should be hoisted at main gate/fountain at the Srinagar's NIT campus along with other state's flags. The Central forces should be engaged for the security of the students of Srinagar NIT as Jammu and Kashmir Police have not been able to provide security to them. Equality and transparency should be maintained during all examinations, events and activities held at the institute and there should be no academic harassment by the faculty. Action should be taken against faculty and administration members who were involved in anti-national activities and violence in the campus and the management must arrange for permanent security for students at NIT from miscreants who pelted stone at them during the clash on March 31 over India-West Indies World T20 cricket match . The students are the future of the country and we should provide security to all students without any regional , caste or religious bias and for imbibing nationalistic temperament in our students we should hoist a big TIRANGA flag in the NIT Srinagar .
