BJP fails to get 'Jazia' revoked even after 6 months
4/16/2016 12:16:12 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 15: After facing severe criticism from different sections of the society for failure of the party to protect interests of the Jammu people, BJP leadership had announced, with conviction, that tax imposed on the pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi would be withdrawn with in a day or two. After BJP high command had taken State unit of BJP to task for failure to get the service tax withdraw, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh had assured people of Jammu and countrymen in the month of September 2015 that service tax imposed on pilgrims, who visit the holy cave of Mata Vaishno Devi, would be withdrawn within a couple of days.
More than six months have been passed but service tax on Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims is likely to be withdrawn. It is perceived that BJP leadership has not taken this issue with PDP seriously because most of the BJP Ministers are more concerned about their own personal agendas instead of pursuing common agenda of the people of Jammu region.
Taken aback by the arbitrary decision of the Government to impose Service Tax on the devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi, BJP, which is part of the Government in J&K, had lodged strong protest with its partner PDP for taking this controversial decision.
An emergent meeting of the senior leaders of the party was held at Srinagar in the second week of September 2015 to devise future course of action as this decision has evoked strong reaction from cross sections of the society.
Important to mention here that BJP had termed the decision as bad and demanded that it should be immediately taken back.
Spokesman of the BJP, Sunil Sethi had mentioned in the month of September 2015 that the decision had hurt the sentiments of Hindu community and particularly the pilgrims who visit Shri Mata Vaishno Devi for performing Darshan, which is the most revered Hindu shrine, where more than one crore devotees visit annually. "The economy of State and particularly that of the Jammu region is dependent on the pilgrimage and the decontamination taken by Finance Ministry of State Government is very unfortunate, likely to affect the pilgrimage and will project the State Government in bad shape", he had said.
