Avinash Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 15: Unwillingness of State Government to develop Central University of Jammu has exposed, as despite lapse of several months, when Government of India sanctioned more than Rs 100 crore for widening of road, the State Government yet to give administrative approval for the project. Sources informed Early Times that for the widening of existing Raya-Morh-Suchaini link road, which connects main campus with national highway, the Union Government had sanctioned Rs 113.57 crore. "The sanction was made by Ministry of Road Transport, Highway (MoRTH), GoI under the scheme of Central Road Fund (CRF) on September 21, 2015", sources said, adding that since MoRTH does not accept direct receipt from any institutions, approval from State Government is required. "MoRTH approved one-time special grant for the construction of railway flyover and widening of access road to the CUJ from Rahya Morh with length of 8.5kms", they said and added that lackadaisical approach on the part of State Government is hampering the ambitious project. "The university on its own has approached to State Government seeking release of Rs 34.60 crore on account of land and structure compensation, so that the revised project (four lane) can be recommended to MoRTH", they added. The State Government should immediately sanctioned the project, as the construction of the main campus is already running behind the deadline. "Several departments have been shifted at main campus (Bagla), in monsoon it will be difficult for the university to make classes regularly, around two Kms of stretch existing single link road which connects the university with main is not blacktopped", they said and added that it is difficult to reach the campus in rainy season. It is pertinent to mention here that to get established a Central University of Jammu, a mass agitation was launched by Jammuites, but after opening of the campus, nobody bothered to know whereabouts of the institution. "Earlier, it was Rs 6-7crore, but plan was revised to construct four-lane, now it will be clear in current financial year" sources in Planning and Development Department told ET. They further said that since budget for year 2016-17, has not been presented yet, many issues related to finance are pending. |
