Inter-State public transporters play with lives of passengers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 15: Public transporters plying their buses on inter-state routes especially from Delhi to Jammu have made a complete monopoly as they lack proper checking and control of the government agencies. Due to lack of proper checking and control of governments of respective states where from these vehicles are plying to J&K these transporters have made a total monopoly and rule the roost. They charge the rates as per their will and as per the demand and also behave rudely with passengers enroute in case they seek any clarification regarding the rates time of journey etc. According to the commuters often traveling in these private buses the drivers as well as conductors, co-pilots and agents of these buses even thrash the passengers in case he objects their behavior and highhandedness. They said that umpteen complaints were made with the concerned authorities assigned the job of maintaining a check and vigil on the buses but they failed to act against them and the behaviour of the staff of these public transporters did not change. The main complaint is against the vehicles running the buses from Delhi to Jammu and holy township of Katra. Some of these transporters are of other states and they in a nexus with the authorities in respective states wherefrom these vehicles pass have made mockery of all standing rules and guidelines made by the respective governments from time to time. Some passengers said that to evade the eye of the authorities there is such a nexus between officials and the transporters that in case of a checking by higher ups in the transport, road tax and other regulating agencies the drivers get information well in time and they change the route. They don't hesitate in taking a long route or a rough route via far-flung villages to evade the eye of the authorities during checking. Even yesterday while some inter-state buses plying to Jammu and holy township of Katra from Delhi they all changed their route from Ambala and took Ambala- Chandigarh route to Jammu instead of Ludhiana, Jalandhar route as the drivers of these vehicles got the telephonic messages that some top officers of tax are checking over some nakas on Delhi Jammu NH in between Ambala and Ludhiana. This way a lot of time of the passengers got wasted. But no one dared to object this action, as the transporters, who have become goons would not let any passenger to speak, the passengers added. They said that moreover the vehicles are run rashly under the influence of drugs and liquor. The traffic rules are being ignored to such a level that the drivers while driving the buses on NH remain busy in talking with the informers and officials by taking two phones in their two hands deployed on check posts etc enroute about impending problems while bus is running over 100 km speed per hour. One can imagine that in case the bus runs out of control it can prove fatal. This way the drivers are playing with the lives of about 60 passengers traveling in the bus. Not only this the drivers even drink and take drugs while running the buses and indulge in talks with their fellow employees in the bus without concentrating on driving. The passengers who remain fast asleep in the sleepers are thrown at the mercy of God and there is no responsibility on the part of transporters. The concerned governments from whose states these vehicles are plying are totally responsible for the same as no one in the administration has ever thought it his bounded duty to check and see that how the inter-state public transporters are throwing all rules to winds and put the precious lives of people to risk. |
