BJP's shedding crocodile tears for non-local students
4/16/2016 12:16:52 AM
ET Report
Jammu, Apr 15: Are the people of Jammu, nay of the entire country, fool? Yes, if one goes by what the J&K BJP on Thursday said about the persecuted and hounded-out non-local students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar. It demanded withdrawal of FIR against the non-local students.
On April 10, 11 and 12, the non-local students left the Valley wholesale to save their precious lives, saying they did not want to live in Srinagar as the environment on the campus was highly hostile and the anti-national forces ruled the roost in the campus and outside.
Earlier, the J&K police had registered FIR against 20 non-local students whose only crime was that they raised Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogan and carried the national flag to counter the anti-nationals in the camps and uphold the national cause in Kashmir.
The J&K unit of the BJP knew that filing FIR against the non-local NIT students and the wholesale exodus of the non-local NIT students had blackened the face of the BJP-led NDA Government beyond recognition and that the entire nation, including the people of Jammu province, was seething with anger. That's the reason that the BJP came out with a statement demanding withdrawal of FIR against the non-local students.
"Registering FIR against non-local students was decision taken in haste and to gag voice of nationalism in the Valley which shouldn't have been done…The students were raising slogans for the country which is not a crime; rather it should have been encouraged and protected by institution, police and local administration. The act of unprovoked brutal lathicharge, without justification, on hapless students remains act of provocation and harassment, which started chain of events against the interests of the State…Things can still be controlled by withdrawing FIR against non-local students and providing them adequate safety and security," said the J&K BJP in its desperate bid to mislead the people and hide its crime.
It was the State Government of which the BJP is the most important part that ordered the State police to beat and persecute the non-local students and also to register FIR against them to deter them and to tell the nation that what the non-local students did on the campus after March 31 to uphold the national cause was an unpardonable crime and that those who would dare to shout Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogan or hoist the national flag in Kashmir would be severely punished.
The truth is that BJP is the real culprit. Its demand that FIR against the non-local NIT students should be withdrawn is just disgusting. The BJP, which has betrayed the trust of the nation and subverted the national mandate and the Jammu's mandate, is simply shedding crocodile tears. Indeed, the demand of the BJP seeking withdrawal of FIR against non-local NIT students has further angered the already rather angry people, who are only waiting for an opportunity to punish it and decimate it.
