Pak HC in Delhi has become a nuisance, claim experts | Confused Pak establishment issues contradictory statements | | Talks or No Talks? Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 15: A few days after Pakistan High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit announced that talks process between the two neighboring countries has been suspended, Pakistan Foreign office spokesman took a U-turn and, in an apparent snub to Basit, rejected that the parleys between Islamabad and Delhi have been put on hold. "We need to look ahead and not think in terms of foreclosing any options. Both sides are in contact with each other. Dialogue is the best option. Diplomacy is for interaction and engagement between countries," Pakistan foreign office spokesman Nafees Zakaria said during a weekly media briefing. An analyst while commenting on the development said, "Two different statements coming from people at responsible positions in Pakistan shows the lack of coordination among them." He said, "The Pakistani diplomat, Abdul Basit, based in Delhi is fond of raking up controversies. It's not for the first time that he has been caught fishing in the troubled waters. He keeps on indulging in misadventures. He invites Kashmiri separatists to Delhi and makes them issue anti-India statements and instigates them to foment trouble in the Valley." "Recently Kashmiri separatists had made a beeline at Pakistan's High Commission's office in New Delhi and whoever met Abdul Basit issued a statement just to drive home a point that they are big political entities and they got a chance to relish a cup of tea with Basit," the analyst added. He said, "Office of the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi has become a nuisance and its only job seems to create confusion and preach secessionism. The Centre should take a serious note of the activities of Abdul Basit and close down the so-called Pak High Commissioner's office in Delhi." "It seems people like Basit don't want relations between and Pakistan to improve and their only job seems to be to push both the countries away from each other. It was Basit, who soon after the India visit of the Pakistani team, probing the Pathankot terror attack, announced that NIA team won't be allowed to visit Pakistan," said an ex-serviceman. He said, "Pakistan foreign office spokesperson has put Basit in a tight spot and his (Pak FO's) recent statement has proved that Abdul Basit is a non-entity, who is unaware of the foreign policy of his country and the developments which are taking place around him." It's in place to mention here that in December 2015, the two countries had agreed to restart the peace dialogue, which was named Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue. It was agreed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surprise stopover in Lahore that the foreign secretaries would meet to decide the schedule and other details of the first round of talks. However, the plan for re-engagement after a hiatus of two years was affected by the Pathankot terror attack in January and the two countries have not been able to schedule the foreign secretaries' meeting since. An expert while talking to Early Times said, "Pakistan has lost the plot as its own people don't know what's happening in their country. Terrorists are calling the shots in Pakistan and it has derailed the entire system. It needs to put its house in order first. Pakistan leaders and the officials have time and again proved that there is more than one power centre in the country and politicians like Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif are mere puppets, who talk about war and peace in same breath."
