Multipurpose stadium at Katra awaits inauguration 4/15/2016 11:39:10 PM Early Times Report katra, Apr 15: The first and only promised stadium at Katra known as multi purpose stadium is awaiting inauguration from the past few years.The Holy town Katra was promised to get a latest and multi purpose sports stadium as its foundation stone was marked out and the stadium was about to be constructed by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore within a period of two years as promised, but many years passed and the stadium is still awaiting inauguration. The stadium with a capacity of 4,000 spectators, having many provisions, including cricket, football and hockey grounds, volleyball court, squash court, changing rooms and a bigger parking space have became a point of discussions now a days. Sports lacks promotion in Katra and the players from Katra always had to go to the nearby stations like Jammu to practice for big matches and the only solution to the problem is the inauguration of multi purpose sports stadium at Katra which is still hard to be foreseen, a budding player added. Sources shared that the locals as well as the Students who appreciated the initiative taken up by the Governor for setting in motion the process of the construction of the stadium are still waiting eagerly for the completion of the same and look dissatisfied with the delay as they expecting the stadium to be thrown open till date. The stadium would prove beneficial to the budding sportspersons of the district and the surrounding areas but the benefits are still beyond the expectations. A Student wishing for the Summer camp said," the summer vacations are nearby and we wish if we had a stadium at Katra to do practice as well as seek coaching for our favourite games during the vacations".
