Early Times Report Kishtwar, Apr 15: In a rare incident that could have far reaching ramifications in strengthening bonds of communal harmony in Kishtwar area, Immam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar not only deferred the protest staged to condemn the killings in Handwara and Kupwara, but also cancelled the proposed rally that was to pass through the town, in order to facilitate Ramnavmi celebrations by the Hindu community. As per the details available with "Early Times", after Fridays prayers, large number of people led by Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar Farooq Ahmed Kichloo assembled at Bus Stand Kishtwar and held a strong protest against the killing of four persons in Handwara and demanded stern action against the guilty . Keeping in view the Ram Navmi festival, the Imam cut short the protest and also cancelled the proposed march as was decided earlier by the people in joint collaboration with separatist leaders and Imam’s of local mosques. Separatist leader Molvi Abdul Qayoom Mattoo also addresses the gathering. Interestingly, the traders of Kishtwar during a meeting last night denounced the separatists' shutdown call and termed it as anti traders as only two days back the traders of Kishtwar District observed shutdown over the allege harassment of J&K students outside the state. The traders strongly conveyed to separatist leaders that they will not observe shutdown as it will make the small business owners suffer. Meanwhile Hindus observed the Ram Navmi festival across the District and several people held special prayers at various temples in the District. The main function was held at Gouri Shanker temple Sarkoot where several devotees participated in the puja and later large number of people participated in the procession that passes through various areas of Kishtwar town and concluded at Ram Mandir Seman Colony. The participants were chanting religious and patriotic slogans during the procession. Elaborated security arrangements were put in place by the administration and police. |
