JAMMU, Apr 15: Given that only two new women police stations are being set up in Jammu region, a hectic lobbying has begun among women Inspectors and SIs in J&K police for becoming their heads. The two new women police stations in Jammu region are being set up in Udhampur and Rajouri districts. PHQ would start ordering the posting of staff in them in the next few days, police sources said. A total of 208 women police personnel, including four Inspectors, four SIs, eight ASIs, 24 Havaldars, 136 cops and 32 followers would be posted there, sources informed. Sources said while many women Inspectors and SIs, who were close to some senior officers, had already started pressurising them for their posting as heads of the two women police stations, one, who was at present posted in traffic police, had activated all her resources to head one of them. Apart from Udhampur and Rajouri, two women police stations are also being set up in Anantnag and Baramulla districts of Kashmir. Earlier, there were only two women police stations in the state, one in Jammu and one in Srinagar. Sources said a few women officers had also approached some ministers in the coalition government. |
