Centuries old temple going to ruin, calls for Govt attention

Bani, Apr 15: A very few people from outside Bani may have heard of Shri Chandi Doulha Mata temple centuries old temple built in picturesque Bani in kathua district but the temple is calling for due attention for its preservation and conservation.
Pahari Vikas Committee Bani, and Yatri Sewa Committee Doulha Mata jointly have highlighted various issues even related to the preservation of centuries old temple dedicated to incarnation of Goddess Durga.
Chief Patron Pahari Vikas Committee Advocate Rakesh Thakur claimed that during navratra festival more than one lakh devotees visited to this revered shrine popularly known as Doulha Mata.
"Devotees not only from state but also from neighbouring states including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab also visited the shrine as they also hold faith in the holy deity.
Advocate Thakur also maintained that Bani assembly constituency is known as Dev Bhoomi for housing abodes of various local deities like as Jodia Mata, Jawala Mata Dhaggar, Vasuki Nag, Guttu Nag, Shiv Chouri Mandir, Shri Gad Mata and etc.
"Ironically both the government as well as local district administration has failed to provide basic facilities to the devotees who visit these shrine in general and especially during navratra festivity, he added,
He said, "During navratras on an average a crowd of thousands throng to holy shrine but it becomes difficult for management committee with restrict resources to provide proper arrangements to devotees like as water, boarding and lodging."
"From Bani to Doulha Mata Shrine the devotees have to cover a distance of about 25 km on foot and devotees face many problems to reach at temple like as water scarcity, shortage of lights in case of darkness and passenger sheds to shield from rain, he and other members of committee said.
Yatri Sewa Committee Chairman Gouri Shankar and Pahari Vikas Committee jointly have appealed to the government to develop historical temples in the area if government is sincerely willing to develop Bani constituency. They said if these historical temples come under an umbrella of a Shrine Board then pahari people can also see their development and improved socio economic status.
