Early Times Report Kathua, Apr 15: Continuing with its drive to check pilferage of taxable goods into the state through the porous border adjoining Punjab closer to the minor check post, the sleuths of Commercial Tax (CT) Lakhanpur Kathua today foiled an attempt of clandestine import of cement and imposed a fine upto the tune of Rs 209800/- against defaulters. As per DC Commercial Taxes, Lakhanpur, on the intervening night of 11/12 April, 2016, a nakka had been laid at Kotpunnu by the team constituted under the supervision of DC, Commercial Taxes, Checkpost, Lakhanpur Puneet Sharma. "The team saw the movement of the truck in the wee hours and acting swiftly, the vehicle was stopped and upon inspection it was found carrying 200 bags of cement without any valid documents/bills as envisaged under the J&K VAT Act, 2005, offi9cial said. He said, "The vehicle bearing registration No: JK14C-1091 was brought to checkpost, Lakhanpur for disposal under rule and a penalty of Rs 78,600 was imposed and subsequently realized from the defaulter who has been identified as Sham Lal S/o Sulinder Singh R/o Haria Chak, Distt Kathua." "The vehicle was then handed over to the toll authorities for appropriate action under Toll Act and a fine of Rs. 79,200 was also realized, he added. In a similar attempt the CT sleuths during the intervening night of 14/15 intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No: JK03E-5259 carrying non-taxable goods. "During the physical check of the vehicle, it was found that the driver/in charge of the vehicle was clandestinely trying to import 2 Bhattis under the garb of non-taxable goods, official added. "The goods were seized and under the J&K VAT Act, 2005 and a penalty of Rs 52,000 was imposed and realized from the defaulter, he added. |
