Passenger traffic allowed from both sides, trucks to ply on alternate days on Jmu-Sgr highway | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 9: Passenger traffic has been resumed from both sides while heavy vehicles, including trucks and oil tankers will continue to ply on alternate days on the national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country. There was only one-way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar yesterday to allow free movement of vehicles, carrying government employees and other records from winter capital to summer capital, where " Darbar" seat of the government reopened today. The offices of Chief Minsiter, her cabinet colleagues and top bureaucrats were closed at winter capital, Jammu on the last working day of last month after functioning from there for six winter months. A traffic police official told that passenger traffic has been resumed from both sides on the highway while heavy vehicles, including trucks, will ply from Srinagar to Jammu only with some restrictions. No heavy vehicle will be allowed from opposite directions, he added. He said movement of all types of Jammu bound passenger vehicles was permitted from Qazigund at 0500 hrs to 1500 hrs whereas movement of load carriers shall be permitted strictly from 0600 hrs to 1400 hrs. However, in order to facilitate the movement of passenger vehicles bound for Srinagar, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Banihal shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) from 0400 hrs to 1200 hrs only, he said adding strict implementation of the cut off time would be ensured. He said historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region was also through for traffic. Movement of traffic was allowed from 0800 hours upto 1200 hours from Buflaiz towards Shopian and from 1300 hours upto 1600 hours from Shopian towards Buflaiz. Srinagar Kargil-Leh national highway was also through. Cut off time for all types of vehicles plying from Kargil towards Sonamarg was 0630 hours at Drass and 0900 hours at Minimarg whereas cut off time for all types of vehicles plying from Srinagar towards Kargil shall be 1100 hours at Sonamarg. However, the road from Bandipora to border town of Gurez and dozens of other far flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) and Synthan-Kishtwar road are still closed for traffic since December last year. |
