Employees, visitors dismayed over poor arrangements at Secretariat | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report srinagar, May 9: While the Civil Secretariat opened after six-months in Srinagar, employees and the visitors were dismayed over the "poor" arrangements made by the Estates Department. The Civil Secretariat and other offices closed in Jammu on April 29 and opened in Srinagar on Monday. Surprisingly, the Estates Department had not made any arrangements for the officials thus bringing many inconveniences to employees and the visitors. Everything was in a haphazard manner including the chairs and tables inside the official chambers of some of the commissioner secretaries and senior officials. "See the condition of this room. It has not been properly cleaned and the chairs are also placed in the haphazard manner and dust lying on them," a secretary of one of the department said. "The Civil Secretariat didn't open here abruptly. If proper sanitation was not made even after opening of the Civil Secretariat after six-months, what will be the condition of other offices," he added. The people who visited the Civil Secretariat were also fuming over the poor arrangements. "We were made to stand for an hour in one of the office chamber of a senior official. There were no chairs in place and was a huge confusion over the poor arrangements," Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Budgam said. Officials said the government has also failed to complete the renovation and repairing works in the residential colonies at Pampore and Tulsibagh. Four days before, the Principle Secretary to Chief Minister had directed the concerned departments to ensure that the renovation and repair work is completed well before opening up of annual Darbar besides facilities including potable water, power, ration etc are made available to the move employees. He had asked authorities of Estates departments to ensure that staff posted to address issues of electricity, water remains present in residential colonies and a complaint register and redressal mechanism is put in place so that employees do not face any inconvenience. "Despite these directions, very poor arrangements were made for the employees," an official said. The officials also said that concerned officials have failed to maintain hygiene, installation of garbage collecting containers besides proper sanitation in and around the Civil Secretariat and residential colonies. The officials said the IT department had failed to make LAN/Internet connections in Srinagar Secretariat fully functional. |
